Stealing a bit

Steve Benen asks:

Defense Secretary Robert Gates has said, publicly and repeatedly, that the United States can't keep spending such vast amounts of money on the military indefinitely. Any chance conservative deficit hawks -- the ones who claim to be desperate to cut government spending -- will step up and agree?

No.

The White House is run by idiots

Really, pissing on labor is such an awesome thing to do when you're set to lose about five or more Senate seats in November. It's a good thing they don't face a close race in Pennsylvania or anything.

For the record, a "pointless exercise" is now what the White House calls trying to win the nomination for the Democrat who might actually win a general election. How much will my refund be when Lincoln loses by 12 points?

Everything is the worst thing that ever happened

Cole inquires about the outrage over Helen Thomas:

Personally, I thought that was obnoxious enough on its own- sounded to me exactly like the nativists here in the states who loudly proclaim anyone of Hispanic descent can "go back to Mexico."

But the question is why Mark Kleiman and so many others feel the need to embellish? She clearly was talking about actions of the state of Israel, and clearly was not suggesting they "go back to the gas ovens." Unless, of course, Kleiman remembers some gas ovens in America that I am unaware of. To read Mark, you'd think she was screaming "JEWS BACK TO AUSCHWITZ." She wasn't- she was spouting some pretty boilerplate rhetoric about Israel occupying Palestinian land.

Because that's the way it works. Al Gore invented the internet. Barack Obama said that children are retards. Oh, and remember, David Letterman absolutely was saying that he wanted to rape and impregnate Sarah Palin's pre-pubescent daughter. Liberals and conservatives both say and do incredibly stupid things. However when you're [perceived as] a liberal, it has to immediately be the worst thing that ever was said or done ever, becuase it is very important you are fired immediately, and if it's not the worst thing ever then you might have a point about why, for example, Glenn Beck still has a job.

"Use Up That Oil!"

Latest comic - click here!

I'm surprised BP executives haven't actually proposed this idea yet. I know when I've got, like, half a gallon of milk left in the fridge that expires in the next 24 hours I start thinking of all sorts of ways to use up the milk. So maybe BP should just propose that people even use more oil- more than ever before- because then we'll just have to get it from the Gulf. It's a way for them to turn horrific, negligent disaster into sweet, crude lemonade. This strategy also worked shortly after 9/11 when for about six weeks every consumable item in the United States of America had to be made out of a flag.

CNN lets crazy racist person on camera

I guess they need to compete with Pat Buchanan on MSNBC:

Geller regularly smears the President and the administration as anti-Semites over the administration's policies regarding Israel. She has said Gen. David Petraeus is pushing "jihadist rhetoric of Islamic anti-semites" and said Obama "wants jihad to win" and is a "third worlder and a coward" who's "appeas[ing] his Islamic overlords."

Despite regularly accusing the administration of anti-Semitism, Geller had no problem joining Fox Nation and several other conservative bloggers in borrowing an outlandish Obama smear from a blatantly anti-Semitic website.

The solution to this, of course, is to fire Helen Thomas.
